Starships Sabers and Scoundrels #18: Eve of Vader Claus

Once again, happy holidays, Scoundrels! Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels is back for episode eighteen. While Taxus eagerly awaits the arrival of Vader Claus (Dennis didn't get it either), they guys are reviewing Rogue One.

Recent News

Beyond Rogue One, there isn't a lot of Star Wars news. However, there are a few stories to share. First, John Williams has begun recording the score for episode VIII. Also, if you are a regular listener of this show, you know Dennis and Taxus are fans of Dr. Aphra. Therefore, the guys will touch on the debut of the new comic from Marvel, Doctor Aphra.

Skystalking

The 2016 comic con season has finally come to a close. Therefore, it is time to start looking forward to 2017. Darth Taxus has found the scheduled Star Wars celebrity appearances for January and will share them in this episode's Skystalking segment.

Hyperthetical

Next, the episode's "Hyperthetical" discusion segment focuses on Rogue One. After all the hype, the movie has finally arrived in theaters. This review will be a spoiler heavy discussion. First, Dennis and Taxus discuss Michael Giacchino's score. Then they discuss their favorite characters, cameos and Easter eggs, and favorite scenes. Taxus has a potential plot hole to discuss as well. This is just the beginning, Scoundrels. More Rogue One discussion is coming in future episodes.

Silence Fools!

Finally, it wouldn't be an episode of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels, if the guys didn't address some listener feedback. Of course, this means there is another edition of "Silence Fools!" However, this time, there was no new listener feedback. Alas, Dennis found some new relevant information relating to a previous email to the show. And, there might be a few more surprises in store for the final show of 2016. Might Vader Claus make Taxus's dreams come true and Dennis's nightmares come to life? You will just have to download and listen to find out.

Rogue One is finally here! This is the show that Dennis and Taxus have been waiting to record all year. Therefore, they are extremely appreciative of the fact that you choose to download and listen. Once again, thanks for joining us for episode eighteen of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels.

Starships Sabers and Scoundrels #17.5: Visions and Voices

Welcome to another Scoundrels Special Edition of Starships Sabers and Scoundrels. This week, SCubedPod focuses on the last episode of season three of Rebels before the winter break: "Visions and Voices." As a special bonus, Johnamarie Macias from The Wookiee Gunner joins the guys for this episode. When Ezra begins experiencing visions of Darth Maul, he and Kanan visit the Bendu. However, their consultation with Bendu is interrupted by Maul himself. After coercion by Maul, Ezra accompanies the former Sith to Dathomir for an old Nightsister ritual designed to complete the visions they experienced when the holocrons were merged earlier this season. This is a somewhat in-depth review that contains spoilers.

Ezra and Maul

First, the guys and Johnamarie discuss Ezra's relationship with Maul. What does Ezra hope to achieve by working with Maul? How does he think of Maul? Conversely, what does Maul see in Ezra that makes him desirable as an apprentice?

Next, what do Ezra and Maul's visions mean? Both Ezra and Maul desired to learn more about the visions from the holocrons. Unfortunately, neither of their visions were complete or understandable. What do they learn in this episode and what does it mean for the future? Also, what does "hope" mean to Maul?

The Cave on Dathomir

In addition, Maul's cave on Dathomir was full of artifacts. Some of these artifacts were relevant to Sabine and the Mandalorians. What do they mean for Sabine, the Mandalorians, and Rebels going forward?

After the discussion of "Visions and Voices", Dennis, Taxus, and Johnamarie reflect on the first part of this season of Rebels. Each share their favorite moments and episodes. Finally, they look forward. What do they hope and expect to see in the second half of this season? There is so much to look forward to.

Thanks for listening to this Scoundrels Special Edition of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels.

Death Stars, and lightsabers, and hyperdrive rings, these are a few of a Sith's favorite things. Happy holidays, Scoundrels! Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels is back for episode seventeen.

Recent News

Most of the recent Star Wars news focuses on the upcoming release of Rogue One. First, advanced tickets sales for the movie recently went on sale. Dennis and Taxus discuss their experience ordering tickets online. Although they were successful, there were challenges acquiring tickets. Next, past guests Galactic Empire announced the release date of their upcoming album. Therefore, the guys discuss the release date and the track titles for the upcoming album.

Our Favorite Things for the Holidays

Next, the holidays are nearly upon us. With all the Rogue One hype, it is understandable if you are behind in your holiday shopping. Never fear! SCubedPod is here to help. We have gift suggestions for all manner of Star Wars fans. In addition, not all of them are capable of destroying a planet. Whether you are shopping for a cosplayer or an office worker, the guys have ideas. Need something for the cook in your life? They have suggestions. Don't want to buy more action figures? No sweat. They have ideas for kids too.

An Inside Man

Another episode of Rebels aired this past weekend. Unlike other recent episodes, "An Inside Man" advances the story of Rebels with major developments. Although, listeners should be cautious as this discussion contains spoilers. Who is the mystery man helping the Rebels? What is the Empire planning on Lothal? Can the Rebels escape from Thrawn yet again?

Silence Fools

Finally, it wouldn't be an episode of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels, if the guys didn't address some listener feedback. Of course, this means there is another edition of "Silence Fools!" This time, a listener wants to know what is up with Artoo's rockets. The guys discuss this and another message strikes a nerve with Taxus.

Rogue One is almost here! Everyone is excited, and the wait seems unbearable. Therefore, we suggest you pass some of the wait with us. Once again, thanks for joining us for episode seventeen of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels.

Nov 29, 2016

Welcome to another episode of Scoundrels Special Edition of Starships Sabers and Scoundrels. This week, SCubedPod focuses on episode seven of season three of Rebels: "The Wynkahthu Job." Hera reluctantly agrees to allow the crew of the Ghost to assist Hondo salvage an Imperial cargo ship in orbit around Wynkahthu. However, he concerns grow when she discovers Azmorigan, the vile gangster, is involved. When Chopper activates the ships power, the ship's sentries activate. Then things go from bad to worse as the droids attack. This is a somewhat in-depth review that contains spoilers.

First, Dennis and Taxus discuss the sentry droids. Dark Forces fans might recognize these droids. Did the classic video game inspire the droids of this episode? In addition, are these Legends droids worthy representatives in the new canon?

Next, how does Ezra Bridger handle a perceived slight from Hera? In early episodes from this season, Ezra struggled with the influence of the dark side. However, in recent episodes, he appears to have overcome that temptation. Is he resentful that Zeb was put in charge of the salvage operation? Will this cause a rift in the team? Or, is this just a distraction for this episode?

In addition, why are the Rebels pursuing proton bombs? This isn't the first episode where the Rebels tried to acquire these bombs. Are they part of a larger plan? Will viewers see them again?

After that discussion, Hondo may be a fan favorite, but is he used well in this episode? Has he contributed to Rebels in a meaningful way? What does the future hold for him.

Finally, each of the guys share some of their favorite moments from the episode. Azmorigan is a presence in this episode, and he has at least one comedic line.  Dennis and Taxus discuss this and more.

Thanks for listening to this Scoundrels Special Edition of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels.

Nov 22, 2016

The march to Rogue One continues. The movie is less than a month away. In addition, Revenge is said to be a dish best served cold, and this week, the guys are serving a little revenge for Thanksgiving. Therefore, on episode sixteen of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels, we take a look at what Revenge of the Sith means for Rogue One.

There are plenty of developments in this week's news. First, Dennis and Taxus Two discuss the Rogue One 360 experience released by Verizon. What do the guys think? Next, Lucasfilm released a new behind the scenes featurette for Rogue One. What, if anything, was revealed about the making of the new movie? Third, Rogue One: Catalyst was released this past week. Dennis and Taxus offer their early impressions of the new Rogue One tie in novel. Finally, Marvel announced a new miniseries featuring a fan favorite Sith Lord. Who is it and when does it debut? Hint: he has horns and tattoos. Tune in and find out.

Up next, Darth Taxus recently had the opportunity to attend Dallas Fan Days. Although this convention was light on Star Wars, there were still elements from the galaxy far, far away to be found. Taxus shares some interviews in this week's show.

Rogue One may be a prequel to A New Hope, but is also the sequel to Revenge of the Sith. What if anything does Revenge of the Sith prepare audiences for in Rogue One? Dennis and Taxus discuss in part two of this week's Hyperthetical.

Another episode of Rebels aired this past weekend. RetroZap.com's Courtney Martin stops by to talk "Iron Squadron" with the guys. Can three kids take on the Empire by themselves? Or, does Ezra have to lean on his experience to provide guidance to these young freedom fighters?

Our favorite Wookiee and frequent "guest" returns to debut a new culinary adventure. Somehow, Dennis was persuaded to go along with this. Will he regret it?

As usual, it wouldn't be an episode of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels, if the guys didn't address some listener feedback. Of course, this means there is another edition of "Silence Fools!" This time, a loyal listener shares thoughts on the recent Ahsoka novel, and Dennis and Taxus react.

Have a great Thanksgiving! We are thankful that all of you have joined us for sixteen episodes so far. Once again, thanks for joining us for episode sixteen of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels.

Nov 7, 2016

With Rogue One only weeks away, now is the perfect time to talk super weapons in the galaxy far, far away. After all, what is Star Wars without a technological terror or two or three? What makes a good super weapon?

Before the guys can talk super weapons, Dennis and Taxus bring up some recent Star Wars news. First, the saga of George Lucas's Museum of Narrative Art continues. Two sites are under consideration and designs for each site have been released. What do the guys think? Next, it is no secret that Battlefront has a sequel in development. Recent comments by Electronic Arts point to a release date. When is it? Third, another entity recently acquired THX, the audio system pioneered by George Lucas in 1983. What does this mean for cinematic sound if anything?

Up next, it is election day in the United States. Up for a little political discussion? No? How about some political debate Darth Taxus style? The Most Interesting Sith in the Galaxy has something special in store for you.

After politics, the guys examine some of the super weapons of Star Wars. Whether it is cannon or Legends, Star Wars has always felt the influence of technological terrors. Some of them are impressive. Others are over the top, and not necessarily in a good way. Dennis and Taxus discuss some of their favorites and some of the more ridiculous entries.

Another episode of Rebels aired this past weekend. Therefore, Dennis and Taxus discuss "Super Commandos." Sabine and Ezra escort Fenn Rau to Mandalore to find trouble with the Mandalorians. How will they get out of this mess? In addition, what does this episode teach about Sabine and her past?

As usual, it wouldn't be an episode of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels, if the guys didn't address some listener feedback. Of course, this means there is another edition of "Silence Fools!"

Thanks for joining us for episode fifteen of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels.

Oct 31, 2016

Welcome to another episode of Scoundrels Special Edition of Starships Sabers and Scoundrels. This week, SCubedPod focuses on episode six of season three of Rebels: "The Last Battle." When Rex leads Kanan, Ezra, Zeb, and Chopper to Agamar to salvage weapons, they find more than they bargained for. A tactical droid there prevented the droids under his command from deactivating at the conclusion of the Clone Wars. Now, he seeks to settle which side would have won once and for all as he compels Rex, Ezra, and Kanan to engage in a war game. This is a somewhat in-depth review that contains spoilers.

First, Dennis and Taxus discuss Rex's resolution with the ending of the Clone Wars. Audiences saw in season two how he shepherded fellow Clone Wars veterans. Those veterans wrestled with inner demons. What about Rex? Does this episode show a crack in his otherwise strong facade?

Next, has Ezra Bridger overcome his dark side temptations? In early episodes from this season, Ezra looked to the dark side to supplement his powers. He desired to save his friends. However, in recent episodes, he appears to have overcome that temptation. Will he be tempted again? Or, is this phase of path of the Force behind him?

In addition, what is to be made of Ezra's revelation concerning the conclusion of the Clone Wars? How is it that he seems to be the only one that ever asked why the Clone Wars ended and who won? Is he prophetic? Was his ability to bridge the divide between Rex and the tactical droid a developing talent? Dennis and Taxus discuss Ezra's ability to reach the middle ground that a galaxy full of senators, Jedi, and droids could not.

Finally, each of the guys share some of their favorite moments from the episode. Remember the scene where the battle droids confront the stormtroopers? How about Kanan's answer to the tactical droid's question about Ezra? Dennis and Taxus discuss these and more.

Thanks for listening to this Scoundrels Special Edition of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels.

Have you read this novel? What did you think? Email us at SCubedPod@Retrozap.com and let us know your thoughts. Once they have discussed Death Troopers, the guys reminisce about Star Wars experiences from Halloweens past.

As usual, it wouldn't be an episode of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels, if the guys didn't address some listener feedback. Of course, this means there is another edition of "Silence Fools!"

Thanks for joining us for episode fourteen of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels.

Oct 18, 2016

Episode 13.5 is the source for Dennis and Taxus's take on this incredible series.

Finally, Lucasfilm released a new trailer for Rogue One last week. Listeners have likely heard trailer analysis elsewhere, so Dennis and Taxus focus on their favorite parts of the last official trailer for the upcoming film.

Thanks for listening to this Scoundrels Special Edition of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels.

Another episode of Rebels aired this past Saturday. The guys engage in a spoiler-filled conversation concerning "The Antilles Extraction." Who is the new Fulcrum? How does Antilles get sprung from the Imperial Academy? And, finally, is a defection on the horizon?

As usual, it wouldn't be a episode of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels, if the guys didn't address some listener feedback. Of course, this means there is another edition of "Silence Fools!" However, that might not be all. Darth Taxus has something he needs to rant about.

Thanks for joining us for episode thirteen of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels.

Oct 4, 2016

Welcome to this Scoundrels Special Edition of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels. This week, SCubedPod focuses on episode two of season three of Rebels: "The Holocrons of Fate." This is an in depth review that contains spoilers.

First, what is the state of the relationship between Kanan and Ezra? A barrier has been erected between master and apprentice. Therefore, Kanan must reach out to his student to overcome the walls between them. Will his efforts succeed? Will they return to how things used to be?

Next, an old nemesis returns. Darth Maul kidnaps the rest of the crew of the Ghost. What are his intentions? Of course, the heroes aren't helpless. When Hera, Zeb, Sabine, and Chopper decide to fight back, they catch Maul unaware. However, their advantage doesn't last.

Finally, Maul gets what he wants. After receiving Maul's demands, Kanan and Ezra retrieve the bounty. The Bendu warned Ezra and Kanan about what they plan to do. What they plan to do won't be spoiled here, but the results have the potential to shape the story of Rebels forever.
