Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels #58: Padawan Lost and Found

Welcome to episode 58 of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels: Padawan Lost and Found. On this episode, Dennis and Jay attempt to pick up the slack for a vacationing Taxus with a discussion of some overlooked but fun episodes of The Clone Wars. Welcome to episode 58: Padawan Lost and Found.

Recent Star Wars News

There was a wide variety of Star Wars news in recent weeks. Dennis and Jay begin with conflicting reports that future Star Wars story films were shelved...or not. Next, the Scoundrels turn to a discussion of George Lucas's plans for the sequel trilogy prior to the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney. The news concludes with a discussion of the sale of a famous prop from Return of the Jedi and Star Wars at San Diego Comic Con announcements.

That's SO Wizard!

Jay is back with the July edition of "That's SO Wizard!" On this edition, Jay is thinking summer and patriotic fashion and lifestyle products. On this episode she shares information on the following products:

Padawan Lost and Found

With the tenth anniversary of The Clone Wars coming soon, Dennis and Jay decide to revisit a couple of lesser known episodes. Everyone knows who Ahsoka is at this point. However, did you know she was hunted by Trandoshans? Or, how about that she met Chewbacca? It's true. Dennis and Jay discuss the hunt and the meeting in their review of "Padawan Lost" and "Wookiee Hunt."

Silence Fools!

Finally, the show turns to some listener feedback and community news in "Silence Fools!" In this edition, Dennis and Jay first discuss the unsurprising results of last week's poll question. After that, they turn to a new poll inspired by this week's hyperthetical.

Welcome to episode 57 of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels: Scrumrats. Recent Star Wars News

Ever since the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, official Star Wars news has been slow. However, there is news in the world of Star Wars video games. The Scoundrels discuss the recent announcement of new content arriving for Battlefront II this fall. Then the Scoundrels discuss a recently announced Star Wars title arriving next year that promises action and adventure.

Skystalking

Darth Taxus is back with another edition of Skystalking. This week, Taxus has rounded up all the Star Wars celebrity appearances for July. Although the best location for Star Wars celebrities in July might be in London, there are plenty of other opportunities to snag an autograph. Tune into Skystalking and find out when and where.

Solo: A Star Wars Story - The Discuss Continues

One episode of discussion on Solo simply wasn't enough for the Scoundrels. Therefore, the discussion continues this week. First, Dennis brings up the portrayal of Corellia in the film and the conditions on Han's home world. Jay has thoughts on L3-37, and Taxus has a point or two to make about Qi'ra. They discuss this and more in this episode's "Hyperthetical."

Silence Fools!

Finally, the show turns to some listener feedback and community news in "Silence Fools!" In this edition, the Scoundrels first respond to a listener voicemail. The discussion gets a little tense before they turn to the results of the latest listener Twitter poll.

Welcome to episode 56.1 of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels: Burning Seas. On this Scoundrels Special Edition, Dennis and Darth Taxus dive into the recent issues of Darth Vader and discuss the "Burning Seas" story arc. The Emperor grows tired of the galaxy speaking with multiple voices and seeks the elimination of the Imperial Senate so that only his voice dictates the will of the Empire. However, making such a change isn't so easy. Therefore, he sends an Imperial fleet to Mon Cala to make an example of the rebellious planet. In addition, he senses the influence of the Jedi in Mon Cala's affairs. Naturally, he sends Darth Vader and his Inquisitorious to handle the situation.

Indeed, there is a Jedi involved. Dennis and Darth Taxus discuss whether this Jedi lives up to the Jedi ideal. Or, has this Jedi adopted methods the Jedi Council would frown on? What are the motives of this Jedi, and do the ends justify the means? Plus, what memories does returning to Mon Cala surface for Darth Vader? In addition, what do these stories say about Vader and Grand Moff Tarkin's relationship? Finally, Tarkin has interesting thoughts on what it means to be an Empire.

Welcome to episode 56 of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels: A Quartet on Solo. On this episode, the Scoundrels finally get to review Solo: A Star Wars Story. However, they contain their excitement long enough to cover the news and "That's SO Wizard!" first. Recent Star Wars News

Despite the Star Wars world focusing on Solo: A Star Wars Story, the past week had other developments. The news starts with some additional details concerning Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disney World as revealed during Galactic Nights. Dennis, Jay, and Taxus discuss these developments and consider future visits to Disney World. Also, Marvel announced a tie-in to Solo for a character introduced in the movie. The Scoundrels discuss who it is and when it arrives. Finally, the news ends with the announcement of when The Last Jedi arrives on Netflix plus a recently announced novelization for Solo.

That's SO Wizard!

Jay has another edition of "That's SO Wizard!" on this episode. This week she talks more about the Lando Dinnerware available from ThinkGeek. Then she offers some suggestions of summertime items and gifts for dad just in time for Father's Day that include some unique Star Wars sleeping bags, the Millennium Flacon Multi-Took Kit, an R2-D2 folding chair, and Star Wars wind chimes. Jay also revisits some of the Star Wars swim wear available from Musterbrand. She then ends the segment by presenting the Wizard Award to Wood With Mood.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Solo: A Star Wars Story arrived in theaters and delighted Star Wars fans all over. Now, it is time for the Scoundrels to review the latest film in the Star Wars saga. Joining them for the discussion is Bill Drewnowski from The Dork Lair Collecting Podcast. The conversation focuses on their favorite new characters and scenes.The conversation also includes a number of Easter eggs they noticed from Legends and the Bryan Daley trilogy. In addition, they discuss the major surprise cameo from the film and how it worked.

Finally, the show turns to some listener feedback and community news in "Silence Fools!" In this edition, the Scoundrels discuss the results of the latest Twitter poll. On this episode, Dennis, Jay, and Taxus wrap up the "Road to Solo" with another game of "Canon or Legends." Recent Star Wars News

There were some major developments in the Star Wars galaxy this week. The news starts with new details concerning John Favreau's upcoming live action Star Wars television show. Dennis, Jay, and Taxus dive into the details. Also, more books focusing on the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy were announced. Finally, Lucasfilm calmed the concerns of Star Wars fans by announcing the next Star Wars Celebration coming to Chicago in 2019. The Scoundrels share their initial thoughts and plans for the big convention celebrating that galaxy far, far away next year.

Skystalking

The convention season just keeps rolling. It is the perfect time to meet some Star Wars celebrities at your local convention. Not sure who will be there? Well then, you are in luck. Darth Taxus put his network of spies to the task of finding where they will all be. Tune in and find out who will be appearing near you in June.

Solo Stories

Solo: A Star Wars Story arrives this week and "The Road to Solo" comes to an end. On this episode, Jay, Dennis, and Darth Taxus wrap up their previews of the film with another game of "Canon or Legends." Joining them for the discussion is Ryder Waldron from Idiot's Array. Dennis collected nine stories about the most famous smuggler in the galaxy and now quizzes the Scoundrels on whether they count as Legends or Canon. Also, can they name the source of the story? Recent Star Wars News

The news begins with a discussion of a new, Ewok-centric update headed to Star Wars Battlefront II. Then the discussion turns to the official trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story. Dennis, Jay, and Darth Taxus share their reactions and favorite moments from the trailer and Taxus shares a concern. The news concludes with a roundup of other updates in the Star Wars universe including the premier date for Solo and the announcement of the second unit director for Episode IX.

 

Skystalking

After the news, Darth Taxus presents another edition of "Skystalking." Taxus has information on where you can find the likes of Ray Park, Joonas Suotamo, and Ashley Eckstein in May. In addition, he has the rundown of Star Wars celebrities appearing at Phoenix Comic Fest.

The Voice of Hera

Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels had the privilege of chatting with Vanessa Marshall, the voice of Hera Syndulla herself. Jay, Taxus, and Dennis discuss Vanessa's performance of Hera's French accent, Hera's future, and Vanessa's favorite Hera collectibles. In addition, Vanessa discusses how the cast learned of the death of a major character on the show and the importance of that event to the larger Rebels story.

Kiss, Marry, Freeze

With the blessing of Johnamarie Macias of TheWookieeGunner.com, Jay conducts a game of "Kiss, Marry, Freeze" in which Dennis, Darth Taxus, and Jay each taking turns deciding who, if forced to make the choice, they would rather commit to or have nothing to do with. The choices are interesting and the decisions are a little surprising in some cases.

Welcome to episode 52.50 of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels: FAN EXPO Dallas 2018. On this Scoundrel's Special Edition, Dennis and Darth Taxus dive into their experiences at FAN EXPO Dallas 2018. This year's pop culture convention featured Star Wars favorites including Lando himself - Billy Dee Williams, the actor behind everyone's favorite protocol droid, Anthony Daniels, and the new actor portraying Chewbacca, Joonas Suotamo. Between Dennis and Darth Taxus, Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels met all three actors and the guys are ready to talk about it.

FAN EXPO Dallas 2018 wasn't just about Star Wars. Cary Elwes, from The Princess Bride, was there, and Dennis has a report on his amazing panel. Plus, Back to the Future was well represented. Welcome to episode 51 of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels: The Road to Solo - Han Solo's Revenge. As is usual, once an episode is recorded after a slow news week, all kinds of Star Wars news breaks. That certainly was the case with Episode 50. Therefore, the Scoundrels have plenty to get to. Of particular interest is the announcement of a producer and writer for a new live action Star Wars series. Also, Jay tells the story of Kylo Ren the white tiger.

At the time of recording, it had been a slow news week where Star Wars was concerned. However, there are a few details worth mentioning. Remember those cool character posters for Solo: A Star Wars Story? Well, they might have infringed on another artist's work. Also, The Last Jedi came up empty at the Academy Awards. What, if anything, does this mean for Star Wars?

That's SO Wizard!

After the news, Jay is back with another edition of "That's SO Wizard!" Welcome to episode 49.75 of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels: Fool's Hope and Farewell. On this Scoundrel's Special Edition, Dennis, Jay, and Darth Taxus discuss the season and series finale of Rebels. With no further assistance from the Rebellion coming, Ezra devises a plan to rid Lothal of the Empire. However, a vision in the Force leads Ezra to realize the time to act is now. Therefore, while Hera summons allies, the rest of the crew of the Ghost fights the Rebellion in "A Fool's Hope." Then in "Family Reunion - and Farewell" Ezra, Hera, Chopper, Sabine, and Zeb execute their attack on the Empire with a little unexpected help. Can they defeat Thrawn and save Lothal?

The discussion in this episode includes the fate of all the major characters in the series. In addition, Dennis, Jay and Darth Taxus discuss how these episodes draw on past episodes of Rebels. Welcome to episode 48.5 of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels: Jedi Night and Dume. On this Scoundrel's Special Edition, Dennis and Darth Taxus discuss the Rebels' mission to rescue Hera from the Empire and the aftermath. First, they start with "Jedi Night." When Kanan realizes that his feelings for Hera might cloud his judgment as they attempt to rescue her, he asks Ezra to lead the mission. Even though the Rebels rescue their leader, they suffer a grave loss in what is one of the most powerful episodes of Rebels to date..

In "Dume," the Rebels cope with their loss in their own way. Some ride off to crash the Empire's victory parade. Others mourn inside the cave at their makeshift headquarters, and still others get a visit from the Loth-wolves. In the end, the team realizes that their sacrifice resulted in a victory, but they still have work to do. Meanwhile, Thrawn that her ill-conceived attack might have earned a short term victory, but it also potentially cost them a greater long win in the war.

The discussion in this episode includes the reemergence of  Loth-Wolves and their connection to Kanan and the planet, Kanan and Hera's relationship, how the team deals with loss, and where the Rebels go from this point on. In addition, Dennis and Darth Taxus offer some overall observations as this series heads towards its conclusion. Dennis and Taxus discuss this and more in this Scoundrel's Special Edition.

With Thanksgiving nearly upon us, the Scoundrels decided to host a Thanksgiving dinner for all their Star Wars friends. The convention season is mostly behind us. However, there are still some Star Wars celebrity appearances left in December. So, pay attention as Darth Taxus fills everyone in on which conventions they are appearing in another edition of Skystalking.

Rebel Assault

Rebel Assault isn't just the name of a video game anymore. Now, the video game shares the title with the mid-season finale of Rebels. Darth Taxus, Jay, and Dennis analyze the Rebellions assault on Lothal, Hera's many skills inside the cockpit and out, and Kanan's fate. Plus, where did those X-Wings come from?

Welcome to episode 41.5 of Starships, Sabers, and Scoundrels: Kindred and Crawler Commandeers. On this Scoundrel's Special Edition, Jay, Dennis, and Darth Taxus discuss the Rebels' recovery of the hypderdrive and their escape from the Empire and the impending attack on Lothal. First, they start with "Kindred." When Ezra, Zeb, and Jai Kell attempt a recovery of the hyperdrive, Thrawn's Noghri agent Rukh tracks them down and attacks. Even though they get the hypderdrive to Hera, they still face Imperial pursuit. That is when Governor Pryce sends in the TIE bombers and the loth-wolves show up.

Once they escape the Empire with the aid of the wolves, Ezra, Kanan, Zeb, and Sabine need a way of contacting Hera and the Rebellion High Command in "Crawler Commandeers." Although the Empire jammed transmission off the surface, Sabine finds a local contact. Upon investigating, they discover an ore crawler with a communications array that might just solve their problems. However, a Trandoshan captain and foreman stand in their way. Plus, Vizago, their scoundrel friend, is aboard. Meanwhile, on Yavin IV, Hera campaigns for an attack on the TIE Defender factory on Lothal.

The discussion in this episode includes the abilities of the Loth-Wolves and their connection to Kanan and the planet, Kanan and Hera's growing relationship, Hera's interaction with the Rebel High Command, and Rukh's appearance. Who was pleased by this episode and who wanted more? Jay, Dennis, and Taxus discuss this and more in this Scoundrel's Special Edition.

Jay has another edition of her monthly fashion and lifestyle segment "That's So Wizard!" In this edition Jay talks about the latest products from Her Universe and new Star Wars vacuums from Samsung. Finally, she gives our her Wizard award for November.

Legendary Luke

So, you think you know Luke Skywalker? You've seen all the movies. In addition, you have read a few comics and books. Do you think you can spot a Luke story that is "merely" a Legend? You are about to find out in this episode's Hyperthetical. Ryder Waldron from Idiot's Array joins the Scoundrels to swap a few stories of Luke Skywalker. Some are canon, and some are Legends.
